hello, I’m Sachiyo Stewart (Sachi)

My name is pronounced Saa-Chee-Yo, you can call me Sachi (Saa-Chee)!

I am a family photographer based in SW Portland, Oregon. I was born and raised in Japan then moved to the U.S. almost seven years ago. I am now raising two young children as I enjoy photography.

I love photography because it reminds me to look for a light even when things in life are not as pretty as I would like them to be. Photography has a power to help us to find a joy in everything, to remind us what really matters, and to bottle up the feelings that you do not want to forget. The warmth, the tenderness, the softness in your heart.

I - as a woman & a mother - am also passionate about helping other mothers to feel valued and seen through photography. I believe that motherhood is one of the most precious and hardest jobs, and that EVERY MOM deserves to be captured in beautiful photos that remind themselves how amazing there are.

I capture those feelings and the connections between you and your family in a relaxed, raw, and beautiful-as-is way.

I've known Sachiyo for a few years and follow her work, and when she came to Utah to visit, I just had to have her take my photos. She recommended a number of locations and the place we can ended up choosing was beautiful. The photoshoot was fun, and even though my two children were abnormally hyper for most of it, Sachiyo was not only understanding, but she also took advantage of it taking beautiful shots of my kids while they were laughing and playing. I always struggle with choosing outfits for a photoshoot but Sachi was so kind and helpful. She gave me great advice with how to coordinate outfits for the whole family. She knows a lot of great spots for each season and gave me suggestions. I usually had to tell my photographer which place I wanted to do it at so it was very helpful to have suggestions for the location. We did a photoshoot with two little boys and they were running around and being crazy. I wanted to give up on getting the pictures that I wanted since they couldn’t stay still, but Sachi didn’t give up. She kept trying and managed to entertain the boys to get pictures in which all of us were smiling. It was very nice of her and those pictures turned out to be our favorite family pictures so far. She also edited the photos very fast so I got to see them a week after the photoshoot. We were very happy with this experience with her.

I think for us what we most enjoyed from Sachiyo’s photography was her ability to connect with and entertain our kids. We chose her from seeing her previous photo shoots online. I really enjoyed her unique way of editing and shooting to create a very bright and happy atmosphere that was perfect for our yearly family photoshoot. - M.A.
